day one, 28/4/09

TODAY'S THE DAY

the first day of the archery competition~ and we are... not really ready for it O_o but anyhoo, today's the first dayyy. exposure.. that's all we're looking for.. exposureeee

cikgu Kenny Leong took us there, along with Kelvin (the coach's 'assistant') and his spanking new pick up truck :P it still had that new car smell. the most expensive smell in the world lol.

i decided that since we're gonna be so damn sunburnt by the end of the competition, we mite as well do "before and after" shots. these are the "before" shots of the girls (the guys are in cikgu kenny's car so it's kinda hard to get their pictures O.o

good 'ol emma, sharing my iPod :)

it was awfully boring and tense in the car, so we listened to a very calming, serene song LOL (excuse the reflection.. it was a bright day and the sun was blinding)
jasmine, who came prepared (the cap and sunscreen... )

so in kelvin's car, we were kinda bored.. then i got an sms from marcus:
Lol.. right behind you lar. gundu.

if you're wondering what "gundu" means, it's a singaporean term for "stupid" or "naive"... it caught on quick and we all started using it for the entire archery competition. other terms like "egg yolk!" simply mean "bullseye~" and "egg
white" means.. umm... "not bullseye" hahaha that was contributed by cikgu kenny. i shall quote him:
eh, know what you can do to get an egg yolk? *points to target in school (last training)* turn the target into an omelete~!!

did you get the joke??

an omelete has egg yolk all over.. smart eh? *sighs*

so anyway, back to marcus' sms. i looked, and indeed, they were behind us. so i replied:

swt.. look up, i'm gonna try take a picture of you guys.

and the end result...
CIKGU KENNY'S CAR! lol.. the sun's glare deprived me of my ability to take pictures.. ughh the weather...

so after an excrutiating, butt numbing, leg cramping forty five minutes, we arrived at the stadium. we were late, and indeed clueless, so we didn't know what to do. the competitors shocked us because..

THEY WERE SO FRIGGING PRO

most of them have represented their state, school, district, whatever.. we've only just begun about a month before the competition. So, with heavy hearts, we climbed and huddled in the back of Kelvin's pickup truck and rued our decision in competing.

coach came over holding some papers. he explained the rules and regulations to us, bombarding us with strange jargon that seemed to come so naturally for him. we were sooo confused at this point. the culture shock threw us into a daze and it felt like we were drowning.. literally drowning.

it took alot.. and i mean a lot of effort to decipher what was written on the papers..

and instantly, i was reminded of our MOOTING COMPETITION
we were prefects for a day!

what have we gotten ourselves into?!

we distracted ourselves by looking around blankly and thinking of anything besides the competition... i discovered that Jong's Crocodile Farm was just a few kilometers away...

look at the road sign.. it's the one in brown

emma: hey, lets walk to jong's crocodile farm.. den we can hide there for the next three days
me: lol!!

yeah.. we wish... -____-

so eventually, we went for the sightest* (trial and error period where we get to adjust the readings on our bows so we aim and score egg yolk after egg yolk)

the entire first day was a sightest to prepare for the real competition tmrw. waste eh? lol. but it was for our own good anyway.

***

the day flew by as we were more relaxed that it wasn't the real competition yet.

the journey home was a painful one.. i was bruised and sunburnt.. and it was only the first day! ughh the weather.. marcus and jasmine rode with me in kelvin's car. emma and kenneth snagged seats in cikgu kenny's car. emma called shotgun. lol

before we knew it, we were back in school early enough to catch our friends in their classrooms. school had ended, but everyone was waiting to go home.
marcus had a boo boo and had a sunburn around his bandaids.. lol gundu!

my bruise (which grew in the last three days started off like this: yes, i did bleed.

and jasmine with her sunscreen defied all of us and didn't get much darker -__-

so we arrived in school in a flash and everyone was telling me how red my face was, and bla bla bla, i'd much rather not talk about it. so, for you guys' sake, i took pictures of my red lobster face -__-

oh! we adopted nicknames amongst ourselves while at the competition:
lovelyn the lobster (cause of the sunburn) that set off the rest of the nicknames..
emma the eel
kenneth the krill
jasmine the jellyfish
cikgu Kenny the kelp
marcus the mussel

signing out, lovelyn the sunburnt lobster
